17 Nov Team Insights: featuring WA State Manager, Natasha Lawrance
In this team insights we caught up with Natasha Lawrance our State Manager for Western Australia. Natasha shares her career highlights, why she enjoys working for Carollo Horton, her passion for working with small businesses, her favourite things to do outside of work and what success means to her.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your role at Carollo Horton.
I started in the insurance industry in 2003 and honestly this was completely by chance through a friend who got me a job at an insurance company as a domestic processer. Over that first three years I gathered valuable experience working in their domestic, rural and commercial departments and then transferring to their Perth office.
Since then, I’ve had the privilege to work along side some great people and gain experience working across different organisations. This has given me a broad understanding of the insurance industry and expertise to provide the right advice to client’s insurance needs, giving them full confidence they are protected.
I commenced my role with Carollo Horton in 2015 and I haven’t looked back. I’m responsible for helping our Western Australian clients identify their specific risks to ensure they are adequately insured across all aspects of their life (not limited to their business insurance) and for effective claims management. I enjoy the opportunity to get to know our clients who are from diverse backgrounds across a range of industries.
You’ve been with Carollo Horton now since 2015, why do you enjoy working with them?
The Carollo Horton family are genuinely good people, and they care about you as a person (not just their employee). They are constantly looking at ways to further develop and progress their employees in the industry and offer a great work/life balance.
What are some common questions you receive from your clients regarding insurance?
The most common questions I receive from clients regarding insurance are usually around premiums and claims.
At the end of the day, you are selling a promise to clients – that when something goes wrong they will be able to rely on the insurance product you have sold them. Clients just want to be sure they have a good policy and its always important to take the time to understand clients’ needs and expectations. We ensure we offer our clients a clear direction and a tailored approach to their insurance needs. There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all insurance solution.
What does success mean to you?
I think the biggest compliment anyone can have is when clients refer you to their friends, family and other connections. Also, when someone transfers all their insurance requirements to me (house, car, business) this means a lot to me that I have developed full trust in not just me but the insurance products we supply.
Outside of work, what are some things you like to do?
I enjoy spending time with my two very active boys who need lots of activity to tire them out! My boys are involved in many different sports which I love going along to watch. They also love mountain bike riding (so I get dragged along – although that’s not my favourite activity).
In my downtime, I really enjoy Pilates so I can wind down.
What is something that many wouldn’t know about you?
My clients probably wouldn’t know that I was a private investigator (which sounds so much cooler than it was). I mainly conducted investigations for Third Party Motor (Injury) and workers compensation. There was no hiding in bushes or anything like that for me, it was mainly conducting interviews, research and providing reports to insurers. It provided me a different perspective on insurance.
